Making Tough Life Decisions with Faith

Making decisions in this life can be hard. There is so much going on around us, so much stuff pressing in upon us trying to distract us, it’s downright hard to tell which way to go at times.

Is there ever a time a life decision doesn’t matter? I’m not talking about what’s for dinner, but real, life impacting decisions.

Now wait a minute; read 1 Kings 17: 8-14 then come back here.

This portion is about an interaction between God and Elijah, and Elijah and a widow. What do you think? Here is a life decision about what’s for dinner. The widow had a decision to make. If she were not obedient, there would have been no provision past her and her son’s perceived last meal.

But she was obedient and was provided two bottomless jars: one flour, one oil.

Now read 2 Corinthians 5. Please pay attention to verse 7. What does this mean? To walk by faith and not by sight? Faith comes by hearing and hearing the Word of God. Romans 10:17

The Word of God is Scripture. Christ came as the Word, in the flesh, and dwelt among us. John 1:14

Let’s walk this out a little further. Galatians 5: 16-18 spells out our problem pretty clearly. If there is a war raging between our flesh and our spirit, what is the solution?

The solution is to put on the whole armor of God. Reread verse 17 about the armor. Not that one piece of armor is more important than the other, but there are pieces that just generally protect us, then there is one that we can use to counter an offensive attack. “The Sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God.”

This is exactly what Jesus used when tempted in the wilderness. If the Son of our Father in heaven used the Word of God to fight His battles, we should be wise to do the same.

Life in this world can be hard, but by our Father’s grace, through Christ, who overcame the world, we can have peace that passes all understanding.

We read and study God’s Word.

We work to live out God’s Word in our life.

God gives the provision we need.
